Kim Yongmook’s Official Home Page

Welcome to my website! I am Kim Yongmook, where the family name is followed by the first name. You can also call me Samuel.

I can be reached via “sebulsik”, suffixed by “at” sign and the “gmail” domain name.

I was born in Gyeongju and currently live in Seoul, South Korea. I graduated KAIST in 2005 majoring in computer science, and later acquired M.Eng. in Korean language informatics at Yonsei University in 2012. In the past, I was a finalist of the 50th Intel International Science & Engineering Fair in 1999, the first participant from my country.

Korean version of the website is available here, including my personal blog being written in Korean. But I’d like to go international with the English version too, publishing information about myself and my software throughout the whole world.

I want you to remember only three things about myself, which are as follows. Have fun!

What I’m expert at:

As a computer programmer, I am mostly known as the author of Nalgaeset Hangul Input System, whose initial version won the grand award from the 17th Korean Olympiad in Informatics (KOI) in 2000.

I have been deeply fascinated by the uniqueness of Hangul the Korean alphabet, and am dreaming of inventing a new technology and solution to improve its use on computer, both its input methods and output methods (namely, fonts). Hangul engineering may partially share the same goal with Korean language engineering, but has different methodology and approach to it.

The current version of Nalgaeset Hangul Input System is 10.65, released in January 2024. The direct download links are available for both 32-bit and 64-bit. Anyone is welcome to download and use them freely.

What I like:

I am a strong enthusiast of the railroad, even almost religiously. It rocks!

Before the introduction of the KTX there was a train rank called Saemaul-ho, which was the most luxury and expensive class in Korea at that time. It not only offered much more comfortable seats than those of the contemporary KTX, but also played a sweet music before its departure at the initial station and arrival at the terminal station.

The music was Looking for You composed by MALTA, a Japanese jazz saxophonist. It was so vivid, lively, pleasant, and drove me so crazy that my life was never be the same again after listening to it! Solely inspired by this incident, now I began to love to feel and analyze any aspect of the railroad system. Broadly, I’m also interested in other means of transportation that can compete with the railroad.

What I believe:

Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior, I am a born-again Christian. I had my sins cleansed with His precious blood and was saved when very young. Then I was baptized underwater on August 11, 2002.

I accept the King James Bible as the final authority. In addition to infallibility of the Bible, I believe in God’s trinity, literal Genesis account of the 6-day creation, literal heaven and hell as the post-mortem world, salvation through faith by grace, humanity and deity of Christ, His virgin birth, literal death, resurrection, ascension, and second coming.

My nickname Samuel was chosen according to both the name of a Jewish prophet of the Bible, and the Saemaul train mentioned above.
